Hillingdon's Youth Council is a forum where young people can discuss and exchange their views and opinions about issues affecting young people.
The Youth Council is made up of young people from across the borough from our diverse communities in Hillingdon. Members are aged between 11 and 19-years-old (up to 24 with SEND). The core group is elected through an annual election process through schools in Hillingdon, but all are welcome to get involved.
The Youth Council works in partnership with UK Youth Parliament and London Youth Assembly.
Meetings
Our Youth Council meetings take place on Mondays (during term time), from 4.30pm to 6pm, at the Civic Centre (Committee Room 4), High Street, Uxbridge, UB8 1UW.
The group is involved in a variety of activities, including:
- organising and running the annual Hillingdon Youth Conference
- carrying out project work on issues raised by young people
- increasing people's understanding of different cultures to reduce racism and racial discrimination
- liaising with key people within the council to raise concerns of young people and inform the council's strategic planning and decision-making process
- liaising with key agencies that provide services for young people and giving feedback/recommendations on proposed projects
- enabling Hillingdon's 2 members of the UK Youth Parliament to receive feedback from young people - and vice versa
- enabling Hillingdon's two members of the London Youth Assembly to receive feedback from young people, and vice versa
Why become a member?
It may sound like the Hillingdon Youth Council is a very formal group and only for the most politically minded, but it's not. Young People join because they want to have a voice for young people on what young people think, want and what they can achieve. Young people find that being part of the Youth Council helps them develop their skills, knowledge, and self-confidence, whilst making new friends.
