Planned footway and carriageway maintenance
The council is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 700 kilometres (435 miles) of adopted highway throughout the borough.
The borough's road network is one of its most valuable assets and the council uses established practices to ensure that it is managed and maintained to the highest possible standard within the resources available. The council uses established practices to ensure that it is managed and maintained to the highest possible standard.
The council currently utilises carbon-efficient technology for reactive maintenance repair (Infrared technology and Elastomac from RoadMender Asphalt).
In addition to the reactive maintenance regime, which includes, routine safety inspections of the road network based on hierarchy as per the annual inspection programme, and defect repair based on a risk-based approach, the council also delivers an annual programme of planned maintenance.
Annual maintenance programme
We prioritise which roads will receive planned repairs and maintenance based on a series of key factors.
These factors include:
- independent survey results
- network hierarchy
- reports and repair history
- accident claims records
- reports from elected members, residents, and petitions.
This method examines the lifespan of the entire road network and not just individual roads.
A priority list for the 2024/25 annual maintenance will be published later this year.
Repairs and maintenance will be scheduled in advanced, but weather conditions and other external variables may cause a delay in the completion of the work. Signs and diversion routes will remain in place until the road maintenance has been completed.
Network North plan - Department for Transport funding
In February 2024, the council received £354,000 in funding from the Department for Transport for local road resurfacing.
The funding will be used to resurface the following roads:
- Long Lane (Hillingdon East) - from Ryefield Avenue to Windsor Avenue
- Rockingham Road (Uxbridge) - from Waterloo Road to Riverside Way.
Street parking during maintenance
While road repair and maintenance work are in progress, it is recommended that you move your vehicles until the work has been completed.
The council will distribute leaflets to affected homes, and signs will be placed throughout the area to inform residents of the upcoming work.
This will give you enough time to make alternate parking arrangements for your vehicles.
