Due to the challenges of the pandemic, the over-65's discount will close to new applicants from 1 April 2021. The Council has protected the existing recipients by awarding a reduction of the equivalent in cash terms of the discount awarded last year to this year's bill.
This does mean however that there is an increase for all council taxpayers, as it has been necessary to increase the Hillingdon element of the council tax this year and the GLA have also increased their precept.
A full impact assessment was carried out as part of the decision-making process to comply with the Equality Act 2010.
Residents (including those over 65) experiencing financial difficulties, may qualify for the Council Tax Reduction Scheme which is the safety net in place for our most financially vulnerable residents.
