Dropped kerbs/vehicle crossings

Driving across pavements and verges can cause considerable damage to the pavement, underground pipes and cables, and vehicles. A crossover strengthens the pavement and prevents such damage. It's illegal to drive over grass verges or pavements unless a dropped kerb is in place.

The cost of crossings vary depending on size and potential obstructions, so an officer must visit the site to assess your application.

Important

We charge a £124 administration fee for all dropped kerb applications.
This fee is non-refundable, even if the application is refused.
Before you apply for a dropped kerb, ensure you have read the Domestic Vehicle Footway Crossover Policy (PDF, 5 MB).
Applicants living on classified roads (PDF, 30 KB) require planning permission.
