Climate strategy consultation
The changing climate continues to bring ever increasing challenges. Severe floods within the borough in September of this year, once again illustrate how climate change is affecting our communities.
During the past 10 years, we have made significant progress to reduce our own carbon emissions despite the unprecedented challenges that local authorities, have faced.
We need to ensure our climate action remains focused on the correct priorities and takes actions that make a real difference. We are therefore reviewing our Strategic Climate Action Plan (PDF) [2MB] and the priorities we will take over the next 3 years.
The plan focuses on the following 9 themes and outlines our targets to achieve the goal of becoming carbon neutral.
- Community leadership
- The council's own operations
- Building better places
- Using and producing clean and green energy
- Waste management
- Climate change adaptation and mitigation
- Carbon offsetting
- Sustainable transportation
- Transparency, communication and reporting
We maintain our commitment to have carbon neutral operations by 2030 alongside our aspiration to be London's greenest borough. We have made significant progress against many of the 9 key themes but recognise that further work is required.
Importantly, we recognise that our climate action is to help protect and build resillience within our communities and covers a multitude of issues, including air quality improvements, flood risk management, carbon reduction and sustainable transportation.
