Climate action

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges we face both in our community and worldwide. Find out how we will lead our borough in taking the action needed to respond to the climate emergency.

Reducing your carbon footprint

We set an objective to for our council's operations to be carbon neutral by 2030 and another objective to provide advice on how to measure and reduce a carbon footprint.

Various online tools can help us understand how our various activities contribute to climate change and what we can do to reduce our carbon footprint.

One way to reduce your carbon footprint is to change to a low-emission or electric vehicle.
Residents can tackle climate change, reducing their carbon emissions and energy bills, in several ways:

  • gaining better control of central heating through thermostats and timers
  • insulating your home with loft and wall insulation
  • replacing old single-pane windows with double glazing
  • upgrading to LED lighting
  • installing low-carbon central heating and solar-powered hot water systems
  • installing solar photo-voltaic (PV) panels to generate green electricity for your home
  • changing to low emission or electric vehicles
  • composting and recycling household waste
