Council completes revamp of West Drayton shopping parade

Thursday 13 February 2025: Hillingdon Council has completed a revitalisation of Mulberry Parade in West Drayton as part of town centre improvements programme.

The enhancements were completed in January through a £567,000 investment from the council and make the small parade of shops more visually appealing while connecting them with the adjacent Stockley Recreation Ground.

A striking feature of the new branding is a wall mural of a mulberry tree on the parade's brickwork, newly painted shutters for some of the shops and the footpath to the park was embellished with colourful leaf graphics.

To ensure local shopkeepers were involved, they were invited to participate in the revitalisation, with a dedicated artist creating bespoke designs for their shutters at no cost.

Six shopkeepers signed up to the initiative, including, Jitesh Puri, owner of JHSmart. He said: "The new shutters are very artistic and match the colour of my shop front. I'm very happy with the work and it's really helped to advertise my business and lift the area."

The parade also benefits from new paving, modern street lighting, and the addition of a zebra crossing.

Cllr Steve Tuckwell, Cabinet Member for Planning, Housing and Growth, said: "We continue to champion local businesses by attracting footfall to commercial areas beyond our town centres, ensuring they thrive and remain accessible to residents.

The council's work here is a fantastic example of blending vibrant visual improvements with practical changes that have made the parade more welcoming and will appeal to residents and visitors alike."
