More playgrounds get exciting upgrades
Tuesday 21 November, 2023: Two newly refurbished playgrounds have been officially re-opened as part of a borough-wide investment by Hillingdon Council.
The programme focuses on play equipment across communal housing estates and within parks and open spaces in the borough, with the latest play equipment to make them modern, accessible, and inclusive.
The playgrounds were officially opened by the Mayor of Hillingdon, Cllr Shehryar Ahmad-Wallana, Cllr Eddie Lavery, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Residents' Services on Wednesday 15 November.
The new equipment at St Peter's Road includes an inclusive see-saw, cradle seat swing, springer, tipi carousel, a climbing frame with monkey bars and a junior multi-play unit with slide, specifically for younger children.
While at Albion Road youngsters can enjoy a three-way see-saw and wheelchair accessible roundabout, as well as playing on a double-tower multi-play unit, a fireman's pole, hopscotch, or going down the extra wide slide.
The improvements in Albion Road's green space are part of considerable investment from the council, along with the recent planting of a number of new trees through its partnership with the charity Trees for Cities and the newly-renovated tennis courts in the adjacent Rosedale Park.
Cllr Lavery said: "We want to ensure that young residents have access to safe, high quality play and leisure facilities by replacing older play equipment in the borough as part of our commitment to creating thriving, healthy households.
"The vast array of green spaces in Hillingdon is a real jewel in the borough's crown but it takes a huge amount of time, hard work and money to keep them in such good condition.
"We consider this a very worthy investment that will enable young residents to live healthy, active lives and by incorporating more accessible and inclusive play equipment we ensure no child misses out on the vital opportunity for play."
A further three playgrounds are currently scheduled to be refurbished next year.
