Northwood Library to close temporarily to facilitate building surveys

As regular library visitors will already be aware, the building has had some slow progressing structural issues which the council has been closely monitoring.  

A survey was recently conducted, with the results this week highlighting that more intrusive surveys are now required to examine its subsidence and the building will need to be closed to facilitate this. There is no reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) in the building. 

While the surveys are underway, residents will be able to use nearby Northwood Hills Library, which will extend its opening hours. It is only 1.2 miles away and one stop along on the Metropolitan tube line or a short journey via the 282 or H11 bus.  

Cllr Jonathan Bianco, Deputy Leader of Hillingdon Council and Cabinet Member for Property, Highways and Transport, said: "We have been closely monitoring the changes to Northwood Library's condition, and these surveys will enable us to further understand the extent of the issue.  

"While the surveys are underway, nearby Northwood Hills Library is a great temporary alternative and boasts a wonderful schedule of activities and sessions for residents to participate in as well as a broad range of books and reference materials. 

"Our libraries are valuable community assets, and our Library Strategy sets out our commitment to maintaining 16 across the borough, including Northwood, and further investing in buildings and facilities to ensure they are of the highest quality and meet residents' needs now and in the future." 

Residents can collect their recycling bags and visitor parking vouchers at Northwood Hills Library.
