Clamp down on anti-social car meets in Hayes

The action follows complaints from residents and local businesses about regular illegal car meets around Pasadena Close. These unauthorised events are organised and well attended by enthusiasts and spectators alike, but often feature drivers racing one another or doing other dangerous manoeuvres. 

Hillingdon Council's anti-social behaviour and environment team's (ASBET) most recent joint action with the police took place on 10 June after the team had been notified of a large disturbance. They turned up to find more than 100 spectators watching drivers race and do stunts. Assisted by the police, more than 150 motorists were stopped. 

This resulted in one arrest for drug driving, one arrest for driving while disqualified, four vehicle seizures for no insurance, 12 traffic offences and 21 'Section 59' orders, issued for anti-social driving. 

More than 30 Community Protection Warnings were issued by police to attendees and the council's ASBET team has sent warning letters to those identified as borough residents. 

Cllr Eddie Lavery, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Residents' Services, said: "We are committed to creating safer communities and car meets like these can be a noisy disturbance for local residents, as well as dangerous for other road users. 

"We're continuing to work closely with the police and local businesses whose land is used, to coordinate our efforts to stamp this out and will take firm action against those committing offences at the meets and those organising them." 

The council's Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) is due for renewal later this week and it is proposed the final document will include conditions to prohibit car meets and racing and will be enforced by both police and council officers.
