Calling all cricket fans to Hayes family fun day
Thursday 25 May 2023: Hillingdon Council is launching two brand-new cricket pitches this June as part of its commitment to providing high quality leisure facilities for residents.
The pitches have been developed using £52,000 grant funding from the England and Wales Cricket Board to expand cricket facilities and raise the sport's profile across Hillingdon. The council will also work with the clubs to help them connect with local groups and schools to promote the sport to a wider audience.
Residents are invited to celebrate the opening of the first pitch at a free, family fun day at Hayes Cricket Club on Sunday 4 June, from 10am to 1pm.
The event will feature cricket taster sessions for residents of all ages and abilities to try their hand at skills, alongside a variety of games and activities aimed to bowl you over. Cricket coaches will also be on hand to offer training and equipment will be provided. To book to take part, visit www.hillingdon.gov.uk/cricket-open-days
Hayes Cricket Club will also run weekly sessions for residents, schoolchildren and visitors, encouraging them to have a go at the sport.
The second new pitch in Cowley will open on Monday 29 June with a celebration of cricket attended by local schoolchildren. Uxbridge Cricket Club will be offering weekly sessions for local people at Cowley as well.
Cllr Eddie Lavery, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Residents' Services, said: "We are committed to creating opportunities for our residents to live healthy and active lives.
"These fantastic new facilities will give both people who are new to the sport and enthusiasts the opportunity to have a go or develop their skills, learn more about the game and what each club can offer."
