Council serves up new tennis courts
Tuesday 2 May 2023: Hillingdon Council is inviting residents to celebrate the opening of its newly refurbished tennis courts at its sports themed, free family fun days at Northwood Recreation Ground and Rosedale Park on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 May.
Tennis facilities in four of the borough's parks are being renovated this spring and summer: Rosedale Park, Hayes, Northwood Recreation Ground, Swakeleys Park, Ickenham and Harmondsworth Recreation Ground. Renovations include line painting, replacing fences, new nets, resurfacing courts and improved court accessibility with new gate-access technology and booking systems.
Cllr Eddie Lavery, Hillingdon Council's Cabinet Member for Residents' Services, said: "We want all of our residents to have the opportunity to live active and healthy lives and be able to enjoy high quality green spaces and leisure activities across the borough. This renovation project, and working in partnership with the LTA, will increase those opportunities and make tennis accessible to many more people."
Julie Porter, Chief Operating Officer at the LTA, said: "We are delighted to be working with Hillingdon Council to improve their park tennis facilities and provide more opportunities for anyone to pick up a racket and get active. This investment is part of the UK government and LTA's Parks Tennis Project, and will mean that courts will be available for people to use for years to come. We will also be working closely with Hillingdon Council to ensure that the local community have a range of accessible opportunities to get on court, and open up our sport to many more people."
The council is investing £60,000 and has secured a further £181,175 from the Lawn Tennis Association and the government, to help improve tennis facilities for residents and encourage more people to have fun and improve their health and fitness.
