Plan a party fit for a king
Tuesday 14 February: Hillingdon residents still have two weeks to submit applications to Hillingdon Council to hold a street party to mark the Coronation of His Majesty, the King.
All residential roads, except for main arterial routes and/or bus routes, may be considered for closure but any residents living on roads which can't be closed should still get in touch as the council can see if a local park or grassed area can be offered instead. The deadline for applications is Tuesday 28 February.
Leader of Hillingdon Council, Cllr Ian Edwards, said: "We know many of our residents, businesses and communities will want to celebrate this historic event and I'm pleased that, as in previous years, we can continue to play our part to make it easier for them.
"Street parties have been held in Hillingdon to celebrate many royal celebrations over the years and provide a fantastic opportunity for families, friends and communities to come together and create special memories."
The council is holding its own celebration for The King's Coronation from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday 7 May at Fassnidge Park, Uxbridge. The Mayor's Coronation Picnic in the Park will feature a live performance of vintage tunes from singing trio, The Candy Girls. The free outdoor event is open to all, so bring along your picnic hamper and blanket and enjoy the show.
The borough's libraries are also hosting a variety of Coronation events and activities, from royal walks and quizzes for adults, to story time and crown making for children. The Battle of Britain Bunker Exhibition and Visitor Centre in Uxbridge is holding royal-themed family arts and crafts sessions too.
Families with small children — and a smartphone — might also like to take part in the free virtual reality trail along Uxbridge High Street called 'The King's Wardrobe' which starts on 17 April. Details of all these events and activities are available at www.hillingdon.gov.uk/coronation.
